Lack of Innovation

I’m sure I’m not the only one noticing the general lack of creativity in game development these days. Most games these days suffer from sequelitis. I look through the stores and, sadly, I already own most of the PC RPG’s out there. For a long time there hasn’t been much that could really catch my eye. Instead, I continually fund these mediocre games out of sheer boredom.

I’ll probably end up picking up Fable today. Not that I am saying it is a bad game or anything, but I already know it will have its limitations. For sure it was not worth the original retail tag of $50, but now that it has dropped in price it is at least a more reasonable pickup. I truely cannot wait until Oblivion comes out, but that is still some time away. I have long considered picking up a PS2 just to be able to play other RPG’s, but I guess the real question is whether I can hold out for the PS3 and try to kill two birds with one stone. It’s a pity there hasn’t been many RPG’s for the Gamecube, but at least Tales of Symphonia was pretty fun.
